Title of event: The Spiritual Life in Music and Sound

A weekend seminar in Eslaen Institute with Yuval Ron

Description of event: Award-winning composer, record producer, world-music artist, and educator Yuval Ron shares sacred Sufi chants and ancient Hebrew prayers as he discusses the history of the mystical use of sound to create devotional trance. In this workshop he will demonstrate how to use sound to "sidestep" the brain, engage the heart, and experience sound meditation and the prayer of Unity and Oneness. Participants will explore the mystery of improvised music and trace its connection to mystical experience.

Through live sound meditations, participants will have a chance to witness the process of expanding the mind, leading to becoming a "peaceful warrior" via the process of surrendering to sound. Participants will also investigate the concept of being a vessel and an instrument. The workshop will include an exploration of how to teach unity and tolerance by using music as a platform for meeting an opponent, neighbor, or "the other." In addition, there will be a discussion of the path of music as a way to connect to the reality beyond all realities.

These Marin County-based Jewish and Muslim authors will be joined by the Yuval Ron Trio at the Osher Marin JCC, 200 North San Pedro Avenue, San Rafael, to celebrate two civilizations, and to explore the cultural, musical and spiritual ties that can bind us, if we inform ourselves.
