DESCRIPTION:About the Concert:\nLast February\, KI and Beth Shir Shalom welcomed two Afghan families hoping to restart their lives here in America. One year later\, both families have truly begun their American story. Come celebrate the tremendous work and love our Welcome Circles poured into this last year\, and what an amazing success the program has been! Khwaja Ehrari\, the father of one of these Afghan families\, will perform for us at KI together with world renowned musician\, Yuval Ron. We will also be honoring the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles\, and attorneys Daliah Setareh (LAFLA) and Howard Shapiro (Mitchell Silberberg and Knupp) for their work on behalf of the families. \nKI’s Connection to Mr. Ehrari:\nMr. Ehrari arrived only a few short months ago\, with his wife and teenage son from Turkey\, where he has been living since escaping Afghanistan\, as it is no longer safe to make a living as a musician there. KI learned about Mr. Ehrari from his adult daughter who is one of the Afghan evacuees being assisted by KI in partnership with Beth Shir Shalom\, through their work with HIAS’s Welcome Circle program for refugee resettlement. With assistance from the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and pro bono attorneys\, he was able to travel to and perform in the United States\, where he is able to do so freely and safely. \nPROGRAM UPDATE: Renowned Musician Yuval Ron to Join Khaja Ehrari on May 21!\nYuval Ron\, internationally renowned world music artist\, composer and producer\, will be performing together with Afghan musician Khwaja Ehrari. \nYuval creates unique original film scores\, music for contemporary dance\, theater\, museums\, new media\, medical and healing modalities. DESCRIPTION:CIHS presents: \nAncient Wisdom & Modern Science : \nExplorations in Sound Healing\nwith Dr. Rick Gold and Yuval Ron. \n  \n\nA part of the CIHS 30-Year Anniversary Series: \n\nAncient Wisdom & Modern Science: Explorations in Sound Healing with Dr. Rick Gold and Yuval Ron \n\n  \nThe therapeutic utilization of sound and music\, one of the oldest if not the oldest healing modalities on the planet\, in recent years has become one of the most sought after and researched techniques of our time. \nThe use of sound as a healing technique precedes recorded human history. \nThe use of sound as a healing technique and in spiritual rituals is mentioned in the oldest texts of many traditions from across the globe. \nThe first known use of music as a healing force comes from the Australian Aborigines who are known to have used the didgeridoo as a healing tool for more than 40\,000 years. \nIn recent years\, the therapeutic field of Sound Healing has gained significant acceptance by modern medicine and science due to its effective applications in studies and clinical practice. \nWith the development of fMRi (functional magnetic resonance imagery) in 1991\, the science of sound healing has progressed dramatically from a research/scientific perspective. The fMRi allows us to observe brain functions in real time. \nfMRI detects brain activity by measuring the changes in both the amount of oxygen in the blood and the amount of blood flow. This measurement is known as blood-oxygen-level-dependent activity. This allows scientists to determine the influence of varied stimuli on brain activity: the precise location of brain activity and frequency. \n  \nThis presentation will explore the use of sound in the healing and meditative traditions of China and India.
